50 Challenges: Taking People for Granted

How many people do you take for granted? This can be either that they will always be there, or because they always do what they do. Having been bereaved in the last fortnight, this is very much a live issue for me.

I am not necessarily suggesting that you tell everybody that you love them – personally, it would make me uncomfortable. That said, we all like to be acknowledged, even for doing those things that we are obliged to do.

So:

Take the time to acknowledge – whether your parents, your other half for putting up with your foibles or granny for looking after the children sometimes. The same goes for the postman, the meter reader or the check out assistant, even though they are just doing their job.

Also do not take for granted that people are at your beck and call, for example that granny will always take the children. People have their own priorities and demands on their time. They are not trumped by your own.
