News that Blakemores in Birmingham have been closed, putting 200 jobs at risk. James Pearce & Co., another firm of solicitors in the Midlands, have also closed.
Thoughts on the business situation on the ITA blog here. However, two thoughts on the jobs position.
First, the legal profession is no longer as secure a place to work, and in the future it may not be as well paid as it was. This applies to all level from junior to senior partner. It will, of course, depend on the firm.
Second, it makes sense to keep your CV up to date. Probably plan to formally sit down twice a year to do so. Additionally, have an idea of the steps you can take to find a new job, so that you can take action quickly if the worst happens. That needs ideally to be more than simply registering with an agency.
